Glycemic Index

The Glycemic Index (GI) Symbol Program is a public health initiative that provides consumers with a credible signpost to healthier food choices using the internationally recognised benefits of GI and sound nutrition.

Foods in the GI Symbol Program have the symbol and their GI value listed on their labels and must meet specific nutritional criteria.

The program is run by Glycemic Index Limited, a non-profit company, whose members are the University of Sydney, Diabetes Australia and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Healthy Kids Association (HKA)

For products to be sold at state schools across Australia they must meet certain nutrient guidelines.

Healthy Kids Association categorises foods into Healthy Kids Registered Green (fill the menu) and Healthy Kids Registered Amber (select carefully).

The Healthy Kids Nutrient Criteria classifies both MILO and MILO B-Smart powder as Healthy Kids Registered Green products when made with skim milk (200ml serve size).
